Timothy G. Saponas

Former Worldwide Higher Education Manager, Intel Corporation

Dr. Timothy G. Saponas is semi-retired following 21 years at Intel. In his last position at Intel, Dr. Saponas served as the Worldwide Higher Education Manager where he was responsible for leading Intel’s higher education programs around the world. With a staff distributed across 16 countries including the United States, the Higher Education team was chartered with establishing strong relationships with leading universities and technical colleges in locations where Intel has a major facility or a strong business interest. The higher education program included support in the form of research grants, equipment grants, scholarships, fellowships, curriculum development, and technical lectures by senior technologists at Intel. Dr. Saponas served on the advisory boards of the Georgia Institute of Technology College of Computing, the University of California Berkeley College of Engineering Center for Under Represented Engineering Students, and the Tec de Monterrey School of Electronic and Information Technologies.

Dr. Saponas joined Intel Corporation in 1985 and held several technical and management positions on a wide variety of projects including the Distributed iRMX Operating System, Unix port for the Intel architecture, and Windows NT optimization for the Intel architecture. He led the Intel team that developed the Plug and Play standard with other industry partners. He also served as General Manager of the China Intel Architecture Lab and President of the Intel Foundation.

Prior to joining Intel Corporation, Dr. Saponas was an assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science at Colorado State University. Dr. Saponas holds a B.A. in Chemistry from the University of Colorado and an M.S. and Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
