Ashok K. Goel is an Associate Professor of Computer Science in the College of Computing at Georgia Institute of Technology, where he is the Director of the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory and the Director of the Design Intelligence Research Group. He is also affiliated with College of Computing's Interactive Computing Division, Human Centered Computing Program, Intelligent Systems Group, and Mobile Robotics Laboratory, and Georgia Tech's Design Computing Program in the College of Architecture, the multi-disciplinary Graphics, Visualization and Usability Center, the interdisciplinary Cognitive Science Program, and the School of Psychology.

Dr. Goel received his Ph.D. in Computer and Information Science from The Ohio State University, where he was a member of the Laboratory for Artificial Intelligence Research. At Georgia Tech, he teaches classes in Artificial Intelligence, Knowledge-Based AI, Cognitive Science, Design Cognition and Computing, and Computing and Society.

Dr. Goel is a member of the American Association for Artificial Intelligence (AAAI), and some of his research on design intelligence is described here on the AAAI website, and here in the Encyclopedia of Computer Science and Technology. He serves on the editorial boards of Artificial Intelligence in Engineering Design, Analysis and Manufacturing, published by the Cambridge University Press, and International Journal of Design Computing, an electronic journal. In Fall 2005, he will host and chair a NSF SLC Workshop at Georgia Tech on the theme of Learning Causal Models in Complex Domains.
