We have provided a list of possible final project topics for you to choose from on the web syllabus. Other final project topics are possible, however, please discuss these ideas with Dr. Jessica Hodgins to get approval.
The final project will consist of the following parts:
1) project proposal -- 10%
2) intermediate presentation -- 15% [except for graduating students]
3) final presentation -- 15% [20% for graduating students]
4) final report -- 15% [20% for graduating students]
5) content -- 45% [50% for graduating students]
Project Proposal:
First you need to pick a final project topic that you are interested
in. In the project proposal, describe your topic, why that was your
choice, and explain in detail what you plan to do with this topic. The
project proposal should contain detailed outlines of what you want to
accomplish and what each of the steps are in reaching that goal. List
any difficulties that you foresee and how you plan on resolving those
difficulties. The project proposal should also indicate what the final
deliverables are. Please list these in ascending order from the minimum
you might get done to what you optimistically hope to get done.
Intermediate Presentation:
This is only for those students that are not graduating. This part of
the final project is due on 4/26/00 in class. You are required
to present to the class your project proposal and the progress of your
work. Alan and the class will provide feedback. Use slides and show
quicktimes of your intermediate results.
Final Presentation:
The final presentation will be in class. For this part of your final
project, present to the class your initial project proposal, discuss
what you have done and how it was accomplished, discuss any
difficulties encountered and how they were overcame, and present the
final product. If there were changes made to the initial project
proposal, discuss what they were and why those changes were required.
Final Report:
The final report should reflect everything that you have discussed in
the final presentation and anything else that you feel is relevant but
did not have enough time to present. You should also include future
directions for the work you have done and potential applications.
Content:
The content of the project will be 45% of the final project grade. Make
sure that you presentation and reports document all that you have done
on the project, including thing that you tried that did not work.
There are a lot of room to be creative here, have fun!
