Guidelines for Projects
1.
To
propose your project for this class, I would like from you the following
materials (total ≈ 1 page):
·
brief
project description
·
purpose
·
solution
approach you intend to use (experimentation and evaluation must be part of this
approach)
·
expected
outcome/results
·
A
schedule of deadlines, including at the minimum an in-class interim report, and
a demonstration to be scheduled with the instructor.
2.
The
in-class interim report should be about 5-10 minutes long, with 5 minutes for
questions. After the presentation the
slides should be made available in a web-accessible form. The talk itself
should cover the introduction to the topic, a quick summary of previous work (including
bibliography), and an overview of your implementation method. Any results you
have at that time should also be included.
3.
The
final talk should also be about 15 minutes long, with web-accessible slides.
This talk should focus on results, benchmarking, and conclusions of your
project.
4.
The
final report should be in a standard research paper format, with introduction,
summary of previous research, methodology, results, discussion, conclusion, and
bibliography. Most of these elements should already have been written out in
preparation for the talks. The report should be in a web-ready format and
should include, if appropriate, a functioning computer program. The final paper
should have a minimum of 5 pages or a maximum of 10 pages, not including bibliography.
