Problem:

Affective computing, and especially research on generation of affective states is fairly new, and not much work has been done so far on finding suitable temporal degradation techniques for modeling machine affective states. Your task will be to do a thorough literature search on various temporal degradation techniques, assess their applicability to modeling emotions (high activation, fast decay affective states) and moods (low activation, slower decay affective states), and implement at least one best suitable technique. Strong math and programming skills are preferred, but not required.
