Netscape setup for newsgroups
- Open up Netscape Messanger
- Under the EDIT menu select Preferences
- A window will pop-up and you will see an option for Mail & Newsgroups. If there is a '+' sign next to this option, click on the '+' sign to expand the view of all the options. Once the view is expanded, you will see a catagory for Identity. Select Identity and fill out the information for your Real Name and your email address.
- Once you are done with filling in your Identity information, select from the left hand window Newsgroup Servers.
- When you select Newsgroup Servers, a window to the right will pop open. If there is nothing listed in this window, simply click on the ADD button. A new window should pop up that ask you to list a SERVER and PORT. The server you should type in EXACTLY AS IT IS SHOWN HERE IS news.gatech.edu. The PORT should be listed as 119.
- Once you have added news.gatech.edu to your server list, highlight it and click the "Set as Default" button.
- You now should be able to setup newsgroups
To subscribe to any newsgroup, select the NEWSGROUP option under the
COMMUNICATOR menu. Highlight the server that you want to look for newsgroups
on, and right click on the server. On the right click menu, select the option
to subscribe to newsgroups. A window will pop open with a list of newsgroups
that you can select. If at any point you are asked for your user name and password,
your user name is your GT number and your password is whatever your ACME password
is.
