Viewing Newsgroups via Tin
This short tutorial assumes you have access to Georgia Tech network
systems.
If you do not, i.e. you are off campus, visit the SSH tutorial here.
1) The first thing to do is to login into acme. First open a telnet window.
2) Next, you want to open a new connection to acme.gatech.edu
3) Opening a new connection by typing in the address and pressing ENTER.

4) Log in with gt number and password then pick a backspace key, and press it.

5) Begin to use TIN newsgroup reader by typing in the word tin.
If tin fails to load because it can not find the command, open up your .profile file using some sort of editor (i.e. pico .profile) and look for the line:
export PATH="$PATH:$WRECKDIR/bin:$WRECKDIR/bin/X11". If it has a "#" in front of it, remove it. If the line does not exist add it to the end of the file, save, and log back into acme.

6) Press ENTER, and you should see something similar to this. You may already have some subscribed newsgroups, but the rest of the screen should be the same.

7) Next, press "g", and type in "git.cc.class.cs1322.announce" (without quotation marks), and press ENTER.

8) You should see this newsgroup appear on the screen, with a "u" beside it.

9) Now, to subscribe to it simply press "s".

10) Repeat steps 7-9 for the rest of the cs1322 newsgroups, which include .program, .lab., and .questions. When complete, it should have the following listed.

11) To read a newsgroup, just select one via the arrow keys and press ENTER.
