The simulation are taking longer with simplescalar than with the previous simulator I used for this class, for one thing and the lectures are running a little behind what I'd like for another. The downsides are: (a) you get less formal grade feedback before drop date (pretty minor because you can tell for yourself how well you're doing the project) (b) less intuition gained from the project to apply to the quiz. I guess the message is don't stop working this week just because the deadline moved -- get at least a first-cut cache design on paper, simulated and AMAT'd before the quiz! Note that I don't intend in general to spring "suprise" deadline changes on you! o Couple of bugs in the Project 1 handout (kudos to Duke for both): 2B: "limit associativity to 1 < N < 8-way" should read "1 <= N <= 8-way". Then there's the spelling error in there as well... 2F: the example uses a memory cost of 100nS when it should be 200nS (200 cycles). -- Ken
