| Due September 27 | CS/PSY 6750 - Human-Computer Interaction | Fall 2002 |
The purpose of this Homework is to give you practice in rapidly developing a design that satisfies some challenging requirements.
The Center for the Visually Impaired (CVI) is a community support center for persons with low vision and no vision. It is in an urban environment, on Peachtree and 4th, in fact. It is a combination of school, training facility, meeting space, and social center. The people that go there range in age from 10-60; many are sighted, including staff and visitors; many are visually-impaired and many are blind. You can assume that they are able to move around on their own, and have general motion capabilities (they can move their arms and hands, physically interact with objects, etc.).
The Center wants to develop an information kiosk to be located in the high-traffic lobby that will be accessible to all of the types of users listed above. The system needs to support general "kiosky" information tasks, like providing information about the Center, providing directions to a specific room, and searching through a directory of staff members to find out where a particular person's office is.
The system also needs to support the students (usually blind or visually impaired) and parents (usually sighted) in the task of getting a report of the students' grades on tests and assignments, as well as checking their account, payment history, etc. The users would need to authenticate using a student ID and passcode, in order to get any access to their records, grades, and so on.
Your task is to design a system, including both the hardware and software, that satisfies these requirements. You will hand in the following:
