| Due August 28 | CS/PSY 6750 - Human-Computer Interaction | Fall 2002 |
Imagine that you are a visitor to Georgia Tech and you have entered the Student Center. Just inside the door on the west side of the building (by the parking area) you find an information kiosk. Suppose that you want to find the office and phone number of this distinguished professor that you have heard about. His name is Stasko and he's in the College of Computing. You also want to get directions on how to walk there.
Your job in this assignment is to go to the Student Center and simulate the situation above. Try to perform those tasks, and also try out some other ones. Specifically, can you find out how to get an application for the MS program in Electrical Engineering? Can you find directions from there to the Fox Theatre in downtown Atlanta? Essentially, you should conduct an evalation of the interface and interaction supported by the kiosk. Obviously, a thorough evaluation would take more time than you have for this assignment, but do the best you can in a reasonable and concise manner. Later in the term, we'll talk about techniques and methods for more principled evaluations of this type. Right now, we just want you to intellectually engage such a task and consider some of the design issues for an interface such as this one, that is, one that is not a standard desktop GUI application.
Turn in your evaluation of the kiosk interface (one page maximum!) highlighting the good and bad points of the interface, in your opinion, and any usability problems that you found.
