Problem
It is well known that e-mail is one of the biggest application of computers and internet. It is interesting to note that less than 10% of humans currently use e-mail. To make e-mail more main-stream, it must be liberated from its current text-dominated format. It must become more audio-visual. Technology now exists for accomplishing this in the very near future.
In this project, audio-visual communication techniques using web-cams, camera on phones, and audio based mail systems will be studied. A major goal of the research will be to identify features that will be essential for designing e-mail primarily based on audio-visual approaches. In addition to reading a few papers, a high level design for a mail system will be done in this project.
