Aware Home: Perception and Ubiquitous Sensing
Problem
As we move towards computers that are embedded in the environment, one main
question arises, "What are these computers going to do for us?"
In order for them to "DO" anything for us, they need to be Aware of
what we are doing and how our activity can be supported. Towards this end,
We are interested in building Aware Environments (e.g. the Aware
Home) that can perceive their own state and determine more about the
inhabitants of the space.
Along this direction, we are working on
various projects that include
- vision-based methods for tracking people
- recognizing their gestures, activities
- audio-based methods for tracking speakers and interpreting the verbal and
non-verbal audio streams
- sensor-fusion (merging different streams to extract more robust and
detailed interpretations).
- distributed infrastructure to support access and processing of rich
multimedia streams
- building of specialized "embedded" sensors.
- using sensor technologies in securing applications
- interesting (and fun) applications using the above
Here is what you will need to do.
