• Pre-requisites: This class is a combination of topics covering a wide variety of disciplines that impact ubiquitous computing. These include Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), distributed systems, parallel programming, and parallel architectures, software engineering, networking, and sensors. While there is no explicit set of pre-requisite courses for this course, the more of a basic introduction to this variety of disciplines you have, the more you will get out of the class. If you are unsure about your background feel free to come and talk to me.

  The material for the course will be drawn from recent conferences such as SOSP, OSDI, ASPLOS, ISCA, SIGCOMM, Ubicomp, and Mobicom; and selected chapters from books on distributed systems. There will also be readings from the inaugural issue of IEEE Pervasive Computing, copies of which will be provided in class. One or two scribes are assigned to each paper and are responsible for creating summaries of the paper prior to class as well as a summary of the in-class discussion.
