Note that the Loop subdivision surfaces will generally appear smooth but may shrink
a little bit. The butterfly subdivision will not shrink, but will be of poorer
quality, especially if there are a lot of vertices of low degree and high degree
in the mesh (Butterfly is smooth only for degrees between 4 and 7).
