CS 7001: Create a web page

Fall 2005

A web page is vital for all PhD students. It provides a way for colleagues at Tech and other institutions to find your contact information, find out about your research, and download your papers. Your web page does not have to be fancy, but you should definitely have one.

You should create a "professional" web page. You may also have a "personal" web page, but your professional page should reflect your career persona. What do you want other computer scientists to know about you? What impression do you want them to have of you?

A typical student web page might have a photo, some contact information, a description of your research interests, and (eventually) links to your publications.

Every graduate student is given space on the college web server. Your personal directory is in the appropriate subdirectory of /net/www/grads on any CoC Unix or Linux machine. When you edit or copy pages in your subdirectory, they should appear on the web at http://www.cc.gatech.edu/~username. You now have a personal web page with a 5 MB quota. For questions, email help@cc.gatech.edu.
