Course Objectives

  • Explain and evaluate consequences of computing on individuals, organizations, and society.
  • Critically analyze situations of computer use and descriptions of technology and policy proposals, identifying the salient issues and evaluating the reasoning behind them.
  • Communicate with others about computing impacts in writing and speech.

Policies

  • Class attendance. Class attendance is required.  Please sign the attendance sheet each class.  If extraordinary circumstances prevent you from attending class, please see me.
  • Class participation.  A significant part of the learning you will do in this class comes from discussions that we will have during class time.  You are expected to come to class prepared for discussion by reading the assigned material beforehand, as indicated on the Schedule.  You are expected and encouraged to participate fully in large and small group discussions.  You may be asked to give a short presentation on material that we read ahead of time or in class.   
  • Assignments. Assignments are due at the beginning of class on the day they are due. Late assignments will not be accepted without an appropriate and documented reason.
  • Academic Honesty. This class abides by the Georgia Tech Honor Code.  Unless otherwise stated, all work is to be individual work by each student.  You are encouraged to discuss the assignments with your classmates, however you should hand in your own work.
