Description

This course will examine of how specific types of scientific information resources fulfill particular needs. Students should anticipate acquiring skills to differentiate specific types of technical information resources based on the features unique to common citation formats for each type. For example, the midterm quiz will present entries for journals and monographs which might appear in a standard bibliography; I will expect students to determine which type of information resource each citation describes. This skill is essential for accessing references which students typically encounter through research and reading. Therefore, I recommend that students practice recognizing types of resources, and that they review the bibliographic theory items on Library Reserve.

Course Handouts on the Web

Most handouts will still be available on paper. Copies of print handouts are available outside my door, College of Computing, Room 119. However, I am converting some flyers to electronic format, to more easily accomodate corrections and updates.

Pages by Section, for Monitoring Grades

Note: send email to the TA or to the instructor with questions about name-substitutes, attendance, or erroneously-recorded scores.

Note: 27 May 98 Due to the increasing width of the grades spreadsheets, we've made separate pages for each section's students, to report attendance credit, assignment scores & extra credit, and total points. Each section's pages are linked, among the three: scroll to the bottom of the display to move back & forth.
