Library News Bonus Exercise
This exercise is one of three "bonus" exercises which students have the option to complete for earning extra points. They are not required for anyone, but I think that the featured news in this exercise is of value for any student.
This exercise is also described on the course newsgroup.
I'll award five points for the following work, if it is completed by 5 June 1998 (5pm cutoff):
From the Library home page (www.library.gatech.edu), find the link for library news & announcements. Important new resources, policies, or other developments are described in these notes.
- Either print the list of news items,
- OR cut and paste the list to a text editor (word processor),
- OR send the page to yourself as an email message.
Next, examine the news FROM THE LAST SIX MONTHS. Items from November 1997 are okay, but no further back.
Choose ONE news item which would have assisted you personally (in any way unrelated to schoolwork: personal research, job search, personal finances, etc.), AND TWO MORE which would have helped you with two different classes. That's ONE personal and TWO class-related: THREE in all.
- If you printed the list, circle the items you choose, then flip your printout over and write your name & section at the top of the (blank) back side. Write three to four sentences describing *how* this new resource or change would have helped you or *did* help you. Make sure you tell whether or not you knew about the news; if you did know it, and the news item is something that has already helped you, then tell *how* you found out about it. If you didn't know about it, consider & describe how you could do things differently with the new resource.
- If you cut & paste the list, use your word processor/text editor to insert your description (same as above--how it did/would have helped) between each of the three items you've chosen. You may email this document to me, or you may print it out & turn it in.
- If you emailed the list to yourself, access your email, then "forward" the message to me--but edit it as above (inserting description of how the news did/would have helped you) between each of the three items you've chosen.
If you email answers to me, I will confirm receipt & score by return mail.
C'mon: it's not that hard. Think a little...almost any resource could be helpful to you *somehow*. I'm just trying to squeeze a few more points out of making you aware of an important library tool. Be creative & don't make a big deal out of it...
