Introduction to Software Engineering
CS 3302 Spring 1998
Exam 1 review
The exam will include objective (multiple choice,
fill-in-the-blank, true/false) and subjective (short answer) questions
on material covered in the first three weeks of class. All
information discussed in class, reading assignments and project
practices are likely candidates for the exam. Give emphasis to lecture
material, because I have tried to point out important summary
information during the lectures.
A good study guide for the Mythical Man-Month book can be found in
Chapter 18 of the book.
You should also remember the kinds of questions that were asked in the
classroom quizzes and the reading reviews that we had in class because that
will indicate to you what I considered important in these chapters.
As far as the projects are concerned, you should be familiar with the
various roles, activities and deliverables that are
required.
The exam will be closed book and closed notes.
Some specific topics of interest, in no particular order:
- The premise of the mythical man-month
- team organization
- surgeon approach vs. 3302 approach
- responsibilities by role
- scheduling
- important elements of a schedule
- monitoring
- software life cycles
- different types and who uses them
- commonalities across all life cycles (WHO)
- requirements
- what's a good requirement
- kinds of requirements
- project management
- meetings
- status reporting
