Writing Assignment #1

DUE: Tuesday, April 8, at the start of class.

For the first writing assignment, your task is to prepare a comparative analysis of an article; it should not exceed three (3) pages, exclusive of the article. Utilize the "Writing Assignment Guidelines."

Your paper should include:

• A précis of an article from a newspaper, magazine, or technical journal (i.e. not from the textbook or the Web) that describes some new computing application.
  
• A discussion that analyzes the article in terms of one or more of the social controversies discussed in Part I of the textbook -- are potential impacts discussed? was the coverage/discussion balanced? was the argument persuasive? were important issues like safety discussed?
  
• An attached copy (or, at least, the first page) of the article you use.
