Writing Assignment #3

DUE: Tuesday, May 13, at the start of class.

For this writing assignment, your task is to write a report documenting the effects of computerization on the lives (work, personal, social) of the people who use it.

The learning objective of this assignment is to give you an opportunity to practice your interviewing skills as well as to provide another opportunity to express (orally, by way of interviewing, and in writing, by way of the written report) why the social impacts of computing are important to people, organizations and society.

You must interview two people who are not students or university employees. At least one of the two persons you interview must be non-technical (i.e. a store clerk).

In each interview, you should lead the interviewee to give an example of how computing has changed the way they work. Elicit an example of an impact as seen through the eyes of the respondent.

Your report should be no longer than six (6) pages long and must include the following:

• A concise description of each interviewee, their position, and the role of computing in their work;

• An example of an impact (computing) as described by the respondent;

• An analysis of each respondent's views of computerization as it impacts them, and your opinions of those views;

• A concise exposition of your conclusions (i.e. what did you learn?).

In writing your paper, try to work these requirements into a coherent exposition, not just some lists.
