Human Capabilities
Computer science's main interest lies in the core of computer systems, in
topics such as architecture and software. This interest wanes however, as we move from the coeof the computer to its periphery - the "terminal" being the
boundary of the system. But a system is useless without a user who can use
it efficiently. The importance of the user is increasingly significant in
today's world where the computer is making its presence felt in the
common place.
The treatment of user behavior has been marginal so far, although increasing
attempts are being made to address the needs of the user. To determine how
the user will actually behave is to delve into the capabilities of
humans themselves. This report is the first in a series of topics
being addressed in the lectures on the Human Computer Interface.
