MESSAGES

Thu Feb 6 1997
Since a whole lot of you are having problems with the Mid Term and since most of you have mid term exams tommorrow, I am willing to give an extensions till monday 2/10/97 to everybody (due in Class 2pm).

I apologize for putting you all thru a tough day. I also apologize for under estimating the time it would take to do this exam. I should remember that I do know this stuff somewhat. If you are concerned and need to know how you are doing before drop date time tomorrow, come and talk to me ASAP.

Many folks have complained that they could not work on PS00 because the copies they got were not clear enough to read. I have scanned the page (p29 of Ballard and Brown) and now it can be viewed from the WWW page for PS00.

Readings for Monday is the Chapter 2 from "Computer and Robot Vision" by Haralick and Shapiro. If you did not get them in Class today, they are avaliable from Jack Tumblin's mailbox on the first floor CoC bldg and also outside my office (320 CoC). Also available are better copies of "Spatial Patterning" Handout from Brown and Ballard Book.

Monday we will discuss for a few minutes today's presentation by our Guest Speaker Sing Bing Kang and then we will launch in Binary Vision.

A critque for chapter 2 "Computer and Robot Vision" by Haralick and Shapiro, is due Monday.

I will also handout some notes on Image Formation (depends on the SuperBowl tho.) and some more Handouts on Binary Vision. Most of the next week will be on Binary vision.

PS # 1 will also be handed out next week.

Apparently due to confusion the book store never ordered "Computer and Robot Vision" by Haralick and Shapiro, I am trying to rectify the situation.

Do let me know if you guys are getting some ideas for final projects. One that comes to mind so far based on the stuff we have read is "Camera Caliberation" any takers?

Next Friday's class will be on "3-D Scene Data Recovery from Multiple Panoramic Images" by Sing Bing Kang.

Please do pick up a paper on his work and read it before class on Friday. The paper is available from http://www.cc.gatech.edu/classes/cs7321_97_winter/irfan/lectures/lecture.012497/

You can also see some of his "reconstructions" from his WWW page

Submission of a critque on this paper is optional.

If you get "persmission denied" while trying to write your image to your directory, it is because the CNS folks in CoC have not been able to give you the right permissions yet. I am told that this will be done by Monday.
Sat Jan 11 1997
You can access you CS 7321 home page on the COC filesystem at:
/net/www/classes/cs7321_97_winter/participants/[LASTNAME]
If you have the same last name as somebody else in the class then your first name intial will be added (e.g. mriley, griley and hwang, pwang).
You should have write permissions in this directory. If you don't then send a note to help@cc.gatech.edu telling them that you are enrolled in CS7321 and should have access to the above filesystem.
If you still don't have an account on the SGI/Indy Lab machines, also send a note to help@cc.gatech.edu
Keep an eye on this page for further info on PS#0.
