PhotoNoter Application
PhotoNoter is an application
that will support professional photographers in taking notes during and
after assignments. The type of activity and information management that
is interesting here is the keeping track of exposure information (for many
rolls of film per assignment, typically), subject matter of shots, and
release information. (This last point is important for commercial photographers,
who typically cannot sell an image to an advertising agency unless all
the recognizable people in it have signed a release. Keeping track of which
images have which releases is a major problem.) This type of information
managent is really note-taking in the field. When the photographer returns
to the office, this information should be uploaded onto a workstation so
that it can be retrieved if a client calls with a request.
The other related
application (or possibly it's a different one) is keeping track of all
the darkroom data related to a single image in its various print sizes
and forms. And with digital reproduction, perhaps the image should have
digital manipulations and printing variables associated with it too. The
idea here is to be able to note on a portable device again any information
produced in the darkroom, so that it can be uploaded subsequently onto
the workstation, and downloaded at future times whenever the photographer
wants to make further prints. Some manipulations apply to only a portion
of the image, so it would be nice to support some primitive sketching.
