EFFECTIVE DATABASE TECHNOLOGY FOR ENGINEERING AND SCIENCE

The research theme of the Database Group emphasizes the needs of engineering and science applications as the driving forces behind the development of new database technology and it reflects the strong interdisciplinary focus of the College of Computing. Database technology refers collectively to the tools, techniques and methods used every day in practical applications in business, industry, government and science. Database technology must be based on science,but it goes a step further, it applies the science to practical applications.

Focusing on both science and its application unites the interests of all the faculty in the Database Group. Database technology is only effective if it is efficient and operative. Our research on parallel algorithms, incremental computation as well as caching is fundamental to the development of highly efficient database technology. Our research on data models, design methodology and user interfaces is fundamental to the development of database technology that will help users of database systems.
