Project Description of Target System (5 out of 5)
Comments:
Installation manual (17 out of 20)
- installation instructions: I tried following your instructions to
get my own dayplan schedule to be shown, but I cannot get it to
work. I think there is probably some information missing in your
installation, or it is incorrect or this functionality does not
exist and your documentation should be modified.
- Software available: No. You still have not put a link to the
applet anywhere on this page. I received the URL from Roy, but
that is inadequate.
- Target platform described: I believe you said you cannot get it
to run in Netscape 2.0, but you don't mention either a browser or
appletviewer to run your application.
Comments:
User guide (18 out of 20)
- directions geared toward user: Yes, you have adopted a very good
format for writing this manual. Unfortunately, some of the
instructions are not clearly described.
- supporting information (screen dumps, access to prototype): OK
- clarity: see below
Comments: I do not understand why you have shown different blocked
out colors for the Schedule display window and this is not explained.
Also, I am very confused by how you include new users. You refer to
an Add User button in the User Guide, but the prototype has an Edit
Users button. So far, I have only seen a single user being shown.
Guide to the source code (18 out of 20)
- description of how code is structured in file system (or
equivalent level of detail): It's all there, but so is a lot of other
stuff that probably shouldn't be there.
- clarity: Hard to decipher
Comments: You need to prune a lot of the information in here and
present the information that is important to your applet alone.
Live demonstration (33 out of 30)
- Attendance: all present
- evidence of running system: Yes, and it was rather impressive
- Discussion: good discussion
Comments: Please enter the Java contest as private individuals. I
would like to work with you to improve some of the features of your
tool before it is sent off. I think there are some simple things you
can do to make it a lot more usable and useful. Top priority is to get
the multiple users feature working and to have a list of several
people that you can use as sample individuals for demo sake. Next
priority should be to allow someone to create a scheduled activity,
even if it cannot be saved to a file. I think the shortcuts to
beginning of a quarter are unnecessary, but you should put in a
feature to jump to a specific date. Also, the previous date button is
very difficult to understand.
This document will not be officially regraded. If you do make
significant changes to this document, then please indicate that when
you turn in your final notebook and I will judge then whether you
deserve a grade adjustment.
