7 Write-up:
  • Need more discussion on design alternatives.

    Interface:

  • Good key pad layout (separate from the other buttons).
  • What happens if the user has accounts other than the two? When transferring money between accounts, does the user always remember the "from" account when the "to" screen is displayed? Should these two screens be combined?
  • Why would the user want to read printed instructions? Can't the help screens use animation? Should help be integrated with the rest?
  • BannerRegistration

    8 Write-up:
  • Good use of user feedback.
  • Design criteria not clear.
  • Conclusion?

    Interface:

  • Options on main screen may be difficult to parse. Interface still seems a little involved and daunting for novices, but full of information for experienced students: consider using icons, better layout, cutting down # of items/screens, etc.
  • Flashing text: maybe too much.
  • Have to search for the "search" button: why can't they be "in-place"?
  • From matrix view, have to "return to add classes" to remove class?
  • "Submit change" button in step 3 could potentially be quite far away from step 1 where the changes are made.
  • Error message only talks about the error: successfully added classes are not confirmed.
  • CareerServices

    9 Write-up:
  • Good coverage. Powerful and still usable system.

    Interface:

  • The main menu is a lit too much of reading: consider better layout/grouping.
  • Good time table display. However color was the only way to distinguish different type of items.
  • No clear exit (this is discussed in the write-up, however it's not really a system limitation).
  • How to change password once I'm in?
  • CareerServices-
    Registration
    9 Write-up:
  • Need more on design alternatives.
  • Good: straightforward interface, appropriate and well done.

    Interface:

  • Good: there is an "exit".
  • How do I know the difference between "Save" and "Submit"? Does the interface tell me that my "working copy" is different than the one that the recruiters are getting?
  • Lengthy data-entry page, but very nice grouping.
  • How about adding: a reset button, an option to view formatted resume?
  • Co-opResume

    6 Write-up:
  • Interaction diagram?
  • Skimpy report. Need more on design motivation, process, and alternatives.

    Interface:

  • Why use a form with radio buttons instead of just regular buttons?
  • Good: separation of sections. But will "section 1" etc. help the users?
  • After editing section 1, a user must go to the last section to submit the changes.
  • Good preview feature: how do I get back?
  • Inconsistency in using frames: horizontal split and vertical split.
  • Data entry layout needs improvement.
  • ELM 8 Write-up:
  • Need more on motivation & decision-making.
  • Need more on helping novices.

    Interface:

  • Two icons representing mails are not quite intuitive.
  • For power users: it doesn't allow multi-tasking because there's only one window present at a time. For example when opening up the compose window from main window, the latter disappears.
  • Compose new message window: what does the pull-down menu after "Address" do is not clear.
  • Address book: the original ELM alias database is a DAG - what if the alias list get complex and long, will it still easy to use?
  • GTTSS

    8 Write-up:
  • Good.

    Interface:

  • Good: overall design is clean, should be good for a novice to use.
  • Good: current state is visible. But it's not "active", which could potentially reduces the number of menus. And the scheduled interviews list could get very long.
  • Some options on login screen do not make sense.
  • Page title such as "Main Menu" is not clickable, while the buttons at the bottom is, but they all look alike.
  • When scheduling an interview, the date info is not carried to the time page.
  • How about providing company information, search, conflict resolution?
  • Screen transitions might be too many.
  • Minesweeper
    (Backup)
    8 Write-up:
  • Interaction diagram?
  • Need more on design alternatives.
  • Good: changes address prior issues.

    Interface:

  • Simplicity of interface didn't allow for much innovation.
  • Does "adjacent" mean the 4-cell case or 8-cell case?
  • OSCAR 7 Write-up:
  • Should recap the system briefly at the beginning.
  • Need proof-read the report, better format the Web page.

    Interface:

  • Grade and transcript displays are confusing.
  • Wording: what "secure info" does is not clear.
  • Wording: saying only "not registered for classes" at the end of practice registration might be confusing.
  • Too many screen transitions.
  • Some of the individual screens need more work and could be better done.
  • OSCAR-Web

    7 Write-up:
  • Basically this is just old + frames + search.

    Interface:

  • The use of frames: waste of space on top, smaller real information display area.
  • Not clear: why some classes are highlighted. Black on gray background is hard to read on some monitors.
  • Not clear: whether "Hide Majors" would hide all or some majors. The current page on the right is not kept when this button is clicked.
  • Clicking on "Winter 97" in the right frame brings it to a list of majors, which is redundant with the majors frame.
  • No default state in search radio buttons.
  • Solitaire
    (Backup)
    8 Write-up:
  • Clean design with appropriate changes and additions.
  • Criteria not clear.
  • Need more on design motivations and alternatives.
  • Interaction diagram?

    Interface:

  • Implementation not as rigorous as other groups - selected system did make this more difficult.
  • The "Flip" and "Move Up" buttons are not intuitive to novices.
  • TotalScheduling
    (Backup)
    8 Write-up:
  • Some screen dumps would help.
  • Need more design process and choices.

    Interface:

  • No clearly marked exit.
  • How to change a schedule?
  • Why separate "submit resume" from the rest of the system? Can't it be integrated somehow?
  • Only used color to help in scheduling interviews.
  • Menu buttons at the bottom of potentially long page: why?
  • Win95Calculator
    (Backup)
    9 Write-up:
  • Well done design.
  • Good discussion on design issues and alternatives.
  • Interaction diagram?

    Interface:

  • Good layout and color usage. Nice implementation.
  • Multi-line display and natural expression input are nice features.
  • Need some indication of drop down menu.
  • Current "mode" not clear.
  • What does the red indicator mean is not clear.
  • Back to class home.
