Important terms/techniques:

• Aggregation - Accumulate individual elements into a larger unit to be presented as some whole
• Projection - Map multi-dimensional space down to 2/3/4-D coordinates
• Focus+Context - Show details of one or more regions in more global context
• Drill-down - Select individual item or smaller set of items interactively for a more detailed analysis
• Select or designate/specify value, see pertinent items on the display

More Techniques

Themescape - Multi-dimensional relation of concepts mapped/projected into a 2D/3D visualization that shows the concepts and relations between them. Uses a muontain terrain metaphor.

Treemap - B.Shneiderman. View of a hierarchy done using a slice-and-dice methodology.
