College of Computing New User Information
So, you're new to the web thing? Here are some things
to help you get warmed up to the idea.
Well, your first stop should be CERN's intro to the WWW at:
You should next look at the WWW FAQ. It's posted every four days to
comp.infosystems.www.users, comp.infosystems.www.providers,
comp.infosystems.www.misc and alt.hypertext.
The FAQ will give you pointers to the HTML Primer, the Beginner's Guide
to HTML and to more in-depth sources.
You can get an ASCII text version of the FAQ via ftp from:
-
ftp://rtfm.mit.edu/pub/usenet/news.answers/www/faq
The latest version of the FAQ is on the Web at:
-
http://sunsite.unc.edu/boutell/faq/www_faq.html
You might also want to check out a paper prepared by Kevin Hughes:
"Entering the World Wide Web: A Guide to Cyberspace". It's available as
a .ps, .tar, .txt and .zip file. It's available via ftp at:
-
ftp://ftp.eit.com/pub/web.guide/guide.61/
Also, many of the browsers available today have information
available simply by choosing one of the menu options, or a special
button on the top of the window. These usually get you to some of
the most current information available.
Information and forms
to get your very own personal pages published on this server (Limited Access).
