ABSTRACT
Sarnoff's role in DARPA's Demo II program is to develop a next generation
electronic stabilization system capable of supporting RSTA functions from a
moving vehicle. This system must handle much larger camera motion than is
possible with current technology, and must stabilize scenes containing
significant motion parallax.
Sarnoff's approach is to measure frame to frame image motion by registering
each new frame to an extended mosaic constructed from previous frames. The
mosaic approach can accommodate larger motion than current techniques that
register the new frame to the previous frame. The mosaic can also support
moving target detection and the recovery of 3D scene structure.
A baseline electronic stabilization system was installed on the SSV for Demo B.
This will be upgraded for Demos C and II.
