Virtual Rear Projection

Virtual Rear Projection uses multiple front projectors to present a robust image in the face of occlusions. By detecting when an occluder blocks light from one of the projectors, we are able to turn off pixels that are occluded, removing the "blinding light" from users. At the same time, we increase the illumination from non-occluded projectors to eliminate the shadows, presenting a display that rivals the quality of a rear-projected surface.

We are currently evaluating virtual rear projection with user studies.

Virtual Rear Projection technology is being used to provide computer output capability for the BigBoard.
