There, she directs the research program in Distributed Data Intensive Systems program -- examines research issues and technical challenges in building distributed computing systems that can grow without limits. Dr. Liu and the DiSL research group have been working on various aspects of distributed data intensive systems, ranging from decentralized overlay networks, exemplified by peer to peer computing and grid computing, mobile information management systems, sensore network systems, and enterprise computing technology.

Dr. Ling Liu is an internationally recognized expert in the areas of database systems, Web Services, and Distributed Systems. She is currently on the editorial board of several top international journals, including IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Engineering, International Journal of Very Large Databases, International Journal of Web Services Research, and International Journals of Grid and Utility Computing. Dr. Liu has chaired multiple conferences on various themes of data intensive distributed computing systems, including IEEE International Conference on Data Engineering (co-PC chair of ICDE 2006, Vice Chair of ICDE04), IEEE Int. Conf. on Collaborative Computing (2005), ODBASE 2002, ACM CIKM 2001, RIDE 2001, and, published over 100 articles. Most of her current research projects are sponsored by NSF, DoE, DARPA, IBM, and HP.
