Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How many threads do I have to declare? How do I combine threads?

A: In order to satisfy the requirements for a BS in Computing, you need to combine two threads. You must satisfy the Institute requirements as well as the requirements of both threads. From there you can choose from any of the thread electives offered by either of your two threads. Your thread electives include free electives that can be fulfilled by almost any Georgia Tech course.

Q: Do I have to choose my two threads immediately?

A: No. You just have to choose them before you graduate. The threads have enough overlap the first year or two that it is easy to consider yourself an Undeclared Computationalist. In the meantime, feel free to use this site to explore the possibilities or to schedule an appointment with an undergraduate advisor.

Q: What if I change my mind after I've declared my two threads?

A: No problem. You can change your mind at any time. Early in your undergraduate career, this doesn't matter too much, anyway. It only potentially becomes a problem as you near your last semesters. See an academic advisor to find out how a change might affect your march toward graduation.
