Why are people racist?
[My mother] remembers that whenever she went into the bathroom to take a bath or a shower [in college], there was always a lot of noise outside the area where she was washing. One day she decided to find out why. She turned on the water, making it splash as she pretended to bathe. Still wearing her robe, she waited until she heard the noises. As soon as she did, she came running out of the shower shouting "Ah ha! I've caught you!" She said those girls were so scared they looked "whiter than white" as if all the blood had drained out of their faces. When she asked them why they were always snooping around whenever she was bathing they told her that they were told that "colored girls" didn't bathe very much, and that when they did the water turned purple! My mother was shocked!
