The William A “Gus” Baird Faculty Teaching Award
Associate and Full Professors are eligible. Nominee should have taught at least two courses for a minimum of six credits during the previous calendar year, and should have taught at least one undergraduate course. An individual may receive this award not more than once every four years.

Outstanding Senior Faculty Research
Associate and full professors are eligible. Criteria for this award include the quality of publications and the significance and impact of research. An individual may receive this award not more than once every four years.

Only assistant professors are eligible. Criteria for this award include the quality of publications and the significance and impact of research. An individual may receive this award not more than once every four years.

Faculty Mentor Award
The Faculty Mentor Award is given annually to a tenure-track faculty member. The award recognizes the time and the effort that tenure-track faculty members spend in mentoring faculty and to appreciate mentors' service to the COC and computing communities. The award is given jointly by COC and the COC ADVANCE Professor

Award Amount: $500
Who Can Nominate: Tenure-Track Faculty

Outstanding Instructor
For non-tenure track faculty. Some qualities to consider when making a nomination:

  • enthusiastic about teaching
  • thorough knowledge of subject being taught
  • genuine interest in making an impact
  • excellent communication skills
  • responsive to students
  • available and accessible to students

Outstanding Staff in a Supervisory Position
Nominee should have made significant achievements contributing to the fulfillment of the mission of the College and of Georgia Tech. An individual may receive this award not more than once every four years. Criteria may include:
  • helping implement new procedures & programs
  • make improvements on existing ones
  • demonstrate soundness of decisions, and
  • provide leadership.

Award Amount: $500

The Freeman Award
This award is presented annually to a member of the College of Computing faculty who has demonstrated the entrepreneurial spirit for which the founding dean, Peter A. Freeman, was known.

This annual award is given to the person (or persons) in the College who, in the Dean’s opinion, represents the best of the College. It recognizes outstanding dedication to the College.

The Dave & Carrie Armento Scholarship
Established by David D. Armento to be awarded to an African-American computer science major who is a resident of the State of Georgia.

The Bierne M. Prager Scholarship
An undergraduate student that demonstrates financial need, preferably from Shelby County, Tennessee. Preference given to CS majors. May be renewed to the same student.

The Raytheon Faculty Scholarship
The College is seeking applications for the 2009-10 Raytheon E-Systems Faculty Fellowship interdisciplinary seed grant award. This award will be made to provide support for one half-time Graduate Research Assistant for the academic year (2009-10) who is co-advised by two CoC faculty members in different Schools. It is provided to foster innovative research and collaboration between the CoC Schools. The nomination should include the following:

  • The names of the individuals and their units.
  • A brief description (no more than 2 pages) of a project or initiative that can be carried out in one year that demonstrates collaboration between at least two of the three CoC schools/divisions (CS, IC, CSE).
  • An impact statement (no more than 1 page) that indicates how successful completion of the project or initiative demonstrates college-wide leadership in interdisciplinary research.

Nominees may want to consider describing in general terms how the Fellowship funds will be used to foster cross-college collaboration.

Nominations are due to the Associate Dean for Research (arkin@cc.gatech.edu) no later than March 1, 2009. Results will be announced at the College's Spring Awards Ceremony.
