Chess
Personal. I've been playing chess for forty years (current USCF rating still approx. 1850) and am 1st Vice President and webmaster for the Georgia Chess Association. My costumed alter ego, Dr. Kibzwang, occasionally coaches and spars with young kids at Atlanta chess events.
Research ideas. I'm not professionally interested in chess engines and their search algorithms and evaluation functions, but I am very interested in the ways in which commercial engines and databases have affected the way serious players practice, play, and talk about the game.
