  • Bread and Chocolate: Eastern Market; brunch; good.
  • Cafe Berlin: Massachusetts Avenue Capitol Hill; German; expensive; so-so; good.
  • Cafe Tirolo: Austian/Italian, Ballston on Fairfax; very good.
  • Chevy's Fresh Mex: Ballston Mall; good.
  • Fish Market: Alexandria waterfront; King and Union; seafood; very good.
  • Le Rivage: Southwest riverfront; seafood; pleasant setting; good food; overpriced; very good.
  • Macaroni Grill: Ballston Mall; good.
  • Memphis Bar-B-Q: Ballston Mall; fair.
  • Nizam's Restaurant: Turkish, Vienna, excellent.
  • Nouveau East: tasty; very good.
  • Obrycki's Crab House: Baltimore, east on Pratt Street; very good.
  • Pizzeria Uno: in the NSF Building; fair.
  • Rocklands/Car Port: Ballston; barbeque; the real thing; good.
  • The Smithsonian: overpriced and unexceptional; American History Museum ice cream parlor is the best of the lot.
  • Tara Thai: Thai, Ballston on Fairfax; very good.
