Walks and Runs

Washington is a great place for walking or jogging because of the variety of interest sites. Here I have listed the ones I tried.
  • Tidal Basin: Jefferson Memorial, Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial; always nice, but cherry blossom time is nice if you beat the crowds.
  • National Mall: technically, from the Capitol to the Washington Memorial, but effectively, it continues to the Lincoln Memorial.
  • Great Falls Park: walk along the Potomac; Falls are long rather than high.
  • Lady Bird Johnson Park: Virginia; island in the Potomac; walk over on the I395 bridge behind the Jefferson Memorial; come back on Memorial Bridge at the Lincoln Memorial.
  • Theodore Roosevelt Island: car access only from the westbound lane of the George Washington Parkway; isolated setting for impressive memorial; walk around the island including the boardwalk on the north side.
  • The Southwest Waterfront: from the fish market to the Titanic Memorial; short but sweet.
  • Potomac Park East: walk all the way around; view the Potomac.
  • Rock Creek Park: running north and south from above the Zoo to the Potomac.
  • Dumbarton Oaks Park: behind the mansion and gardens of Dumbarton Oaks in Georgetown.
