CyberDesk IUI Scenario #1: Simple

Please wait until all of the applets finish loading before starting to interact with CyberDesk. Also, note that by following one of the links below and returning to this page, you will be creating a new instantiation of CyberDesk. Please remove all CyberDesk windows when leaving this page (ActOn window, e-mail message windows, etc) to make it less confusing when you return.

CyberDesk Services Being Loaded

The services loaded with this scenario are the e-mail browser, contact manager, AltaVista, Netscape, SwitchBoard, and converters that recognize strings, names, e-mail addresses, and URLs.

Scenario Steps

The following is a list of steps to duplicate the user scenario described in the IUI-submited paper. Feel free to try other things - you don't have to stick to the following scenario.
  1. Wait for all applets to finish loading
  2. Open the contact manager (click on Contact Manager button)
  3. Click on the 6th e-mail message, press the "View Message" button and read the e-mail message
  4. Select the URL in the message with your mouse
  5. After seeing the options in the ActOn window appear (may have to resize the window), select the "View URL" option (click on that button) and view the Netscape window that is created
  6. Select "Gregory Abowd" in the message with your mouse
  7. Select the "Lookup in Contact Manager" option and see that the entry does not exist
  8. Select the SwitchBoard option and view the SwitchBoard data
  9. Select the "Create a New Entry" option and enter the mailing address and phone number information
