• Vision can make the machine aware of the user, his movement and environment
• developing robust techniques for gesture recognition and face detection

Why?

• detecting the presence of a person
  -> replacing the login-password
  -> migrating applications (-> XeroX PARC)
• eye tracking to find out where the user is looking at in order to activate the current window the user is working in
• mouth tracking to trigger a speech recognition system
• mouth tracking in video communications:
  
  • keeping the face of the user centered in the image
  • active camera management in a meeting ( close-ups of the current speaker)
