We had a good meeting today with Rob Kooper, Sue Long, Ami, Scott and myself.
Here is a brief summary for those unable to attend.

Before going any further, we decided to meet next week on Tuesday from
4:30-6pm in the GVU conference room. We will settle on the actual weekly
meeting time at that point.

The DTR's (all 10 of them) have arrived. We have to load the ClassPad
app on them and get things all set up. We should pick an evening soon
to do all of this.

We have a commitment from OIT to get the Ethernet and power connections
up by Jan 23. That will work well with the phasing-in of technology in
my class. We are a little up in the air now concerning the actually way
Ethernet and power will be delivered and whether we will be allowed to
house the DTRs in the classroom, so let's revisit this issue at our next
meeting. Scott will give the update.

Audio stuff. Ami has built a stream based audio server and he will demo
it to us at the next meeting. I think this means we no longer have to
deliver offset plus extent to the cgi-bin script, but that is no big deal.
There are a couple of Masters IDT students in the class, so we are going to
look into getting a unix workstation installed in the LCC lab in Skiles to
avoid having to port the audio server in the near term to either Windows or
Mac. Scott plans to move away from the Sun audio format over to MPEG in the
near future and we should think about accommodating one or two classes' worth
of video recording.

Scott also has secured a better microphone for recording in class. There
are still some questions about the exact recording arrangement. At the last
minute last quarter we have to physically move a workstation into place in
239, so I'm not convinced that we are going to be able to rely on having that
as a recording device unless we do something about it now. I'd like to see a
set up in which the unix time-stamp needed by the audio server was set
automatically when we start recording. Any ideas?

I asked about having the machine c2000.gatech.edu (the host for the audio
server) as the Web server for the class as well. Scott says that if we were
to supply a single connector 2G Sun SCSI drive, then it would be no problem.
We also need to make sure we are keeping usage statistics throughout the class.

That's all for now. See you on Tuesday.

Gregory
