Mikol,

Welcome back. Here is the status for this week. I'm copying this
to the rest of the group as an update.

Mikiya is out of town until Tuesday. Paul and Jason are working
on getting the latest ClassPad integrated with the post-processing
scripts. Dale is handling loading ClassPad onto the individual
units and documenting the daily procedures for C 2000 this quarter.

At this point, I think it is a bit risky to assume that your interactive
note-taker will be ready at the beginning of class, so it will have to
be phased in. I would like your help in determining what audio recording
set-up is going to work best this quarter. Ami has our DAT recorder that
he is going to bring to us. We need to get a collection of 3
omni-directional mics and a wireless mic to capture sound. We also
need a pre-amp for the dat recorder.

I'm going to be out of town on Thursday, so I'm leaving to the rest of
the crew to do a dry-run with all of the equipment. I'll be back
Friday night and we can arrange for some more trials over the weekend
and the beginning of next week.

Outstanding issue:

1) Web server. Still struggling with OIT on this. At this point, we
will have to host things on the normal CoC server (not internal).
I'll create our agreed file directory structure on Wednesday and put
up a preliminary class Web page. If OIT's machine becomes available,
then we'll switch to that.

2) Student units. I'm still not satisfied that we have done enough
experimentation with the student units to get them working as fast as
possible with the given resources. Dale, I received 2 PCMCIA floppy
drives and one 4MB RAM card. I want you to see if these devices help
with loading files and improving speed of ClassPad.

3) Evaluation. Wendy, I will meet with you separately early next week
to discuss our evaluation/assessment plan.

I'm teaching all day today, so if anyone wants to meet with me, it
will have to wait until Wednesday.

Gregory
