quarter meetings of C 2000

As we agreed last week, the weekly meetings for C 2000 are going
to be at 5pm on Mondays. I'm out of town all of next week, but I
would like everyone to meet to sort out how the post-production
for Thursday's class went and to start to catch our breath and
plan for the quarter's work. I'd like Jason to run the meeting
and here is what I would like covered. These are a lot of topics,
so be wise about how much time you spend on each topic. Assign someone
to take minutes and record the action items associated to each.
Heck, you can even use the C2000 technology to record the meeting
notes and do the minutes afterwards using Mikol's note-reviser.

0) I'd like Wendy to talk to everybody about the project being
done over in Industrial Design concerning the LiveBoard and
its use in higher education. We should be involved in that
project, given that we have more experience than just about
anyone else on campus on this particular topic.

1) Logging of Web usage and RealAudio usage. Update from Mikol
and Paul on what statistics we are tracking this quarter. Remember,
if we are going to be able to draw any conclusions about how use
of the augmented notes supports learning we have to know something about
how individuals access the notes and audio and when. Now that the
notes are going to be password secured, this should be possible.

2) Run through the editable interface. Mikol will talk about strategies
for editing the notes for those that take electronic notes in class
and those that do not. I will send Mikol some suggestions about that
in a separate message. I'd like everyone to be able to create a summary
HTML page on Thursday's lecture to test out Mikol's interface. Mikol,
can you accommodate this for each of the members of the project team?

3) It's not going to be long before we are able to move into room 102.
Then we won't even have to move equipment before class.

4) I'd like the "Important" audio links to start showing up on the
Web pages. They should be distinguished from the links created by
navigating between slides somehow. For example, the links for navigation
can be labelled as "Visit #n <time>". At Xerox PARC, they took to using
a little image of an analog clock to show the time of an indexed event. Takes up less space. The links that were explicitly indicated by the important
button can show up as "Important audio <time>". When the use selects
pace "too fast" maybe we can produce a link that says "Review for speed <time>".
Discuss other alternatives. It should be relatively easy to extend the
Perl scripts to create these new link types.

5) Test out the Web interface on all possible platforms. Students need to
know what browser to run to edit the notes. We need to include some user
instructions that point to the correct downloadable version of Netscape (maybe even put the correct platform-by-platform images on our c2000 server) and how
to get the RealAudio player. Remember, if we are going to want to say something about how usage affects performance, we have to do everything
possible to encourage and enable widespread usage of the notes by the
students.

That's all.
