Preparation and Characterization of Superhydrophilic/Superhydrophobic Graphene Surface

Superhydrophobic materials can be utilized in many fields, such as antisticking surface, anticontamination, and self-cleaning technologies. Similarly, superhydrophilic materials also have many important applications. Graphene is a novel kind of two-dimensional carbon nano-material. We designed the chemical properties of graphene and silicon micro structure. Finally graphene micro-nano structure was produced to get superhydrophobic/superhydrophilic properties

In this article vertical aligned graphene nanosheets were produced by Microwave Plasma Chemical Vapor Deposition (MPCVD), and then they were chemically modified to archive hydrophobic and hydrophilic properties. SEM, Raman Spectrum, XRD, EDX were used to characterize the structure and the elemental composition of the graphene nanosheets; Silicon wafers which have microstructure were produced by Inductively Coupled Plasma Reactive-Ion Etching (ICP-RIE), and then hydrophobic and hydrophilic graphene nanosheets grow on them; Superhydrophilic graphene surface (contact angle is 0 degree) and superhydrophobic graphene surface (contact angle is 152.0 degree) were got; The equation which can predict the contact angle of micro-nano structure was given, and was partially approved by the experiments.
