The world map is where the player selects the next region to advance to. Of course, previous found locations will be tracked and are meant to provide some backtracking to purchase new items. A brief description will be displayed once the cursor hovers over the destination, allowing the player to breathe some of the history of the world.

There are two major towns that are able to be explored by the player. These areas serve as bases that can provide supplies and information. Monsters will not attack the towns, bringing peace to weary fighters. Players will have full control of the cursor in most instances and can travel from region to region by clicking on the arrow at the end of a screen.

What is a game without characters? The characters in Rose Chronicles are story-line driven and therefore it is not essential to review their prior histories before playing the game. Interaction between characters will taken place when prompted by special events or battles. Since so much of the game is based around the characters, you may expect that conversations happen often and are full of life.

Just because the battles have taken a backseat to the storyline doesn't mean it is any less engaging. Battles fly by quick and all characters are fully healed at the end of a fight. This places huge amounts of strategy into selecting the right skills and items, and less emphasis on power-leveling and stat boosting. Enemies are wily and now there is a chance of attacks by high specialized monsters that demand quick reflexes and thought, but bestow glorious rewards when defeated.
