Welcome !

I am a 2nd  year grad student, working under Prof. Ling Liu at the College of Computing at Georgia Institute of Technology.  My primary research area is Operating Systems.  I am a part of the CERCS (Center for Experimental Research in Computer Systems) group and I work at the DiSL (Distributed data intensive Systems Lab).

Research

My research spans the broad area of OS with a recent focus on storage systems.  I currently work on a project called Pro-active Disks which aims at enhancing the storage layer's interaction with the higher layers of the system.   A pro-active disk, in addition to responding to higher level read and write requests, also has the capability of transferring its knowledge to the higher layers of the system.  A pro-active disk passes its knowledge to the higher layer through generic and sufficiently powerful interfaces.  The higher layers viz. the file system can leverage the knowledge exported by the pro-active disk to enhance the system performance.

Prior to this, I worked on a few interesting projects, the details of which can be found in my resume.

My research statement can be found here.

Summer 2009

NEC Labs America, Princeton, NJ (Grid Storage Group)

Analyzed power-performance trade-offs in existing power conservation techniques and proposed an analytical performance model for power-aware storage arrays.

Summer 2008

Netapp Inc. , Santa Cruz CA (Advanced Technology Group)

Analyzed the power consumption behavior of the various hardware and software components of NetApp Storage Servers and studied the effect of file systems/workloads on the storage system power consumption.

About Me

I earned my undergraduate (Bachelor of Engg.) degree in Computer Science from Anna University, Chennai, India.  I spent my entire school-life at St. John's Matriculation Higher Sec. School, Chennai. I was born and brought up in Chennai, India.

Apart from computing, I am also interested in law (partly influenced by my father who is a lawyer in India) , management and finance. I play badminton, squash and closely follow cricket. I have two brothers, Muthian and Gopalan, both software engineers at Google.  Here is my mother's tamil poetry site and here is my picasa album.
