Meeting minutes August meeting. Sept. 2, 2005.

Introduction of continuing and new GSC members.

HCC faculty meetings: Steven Dow will check if these meetings
happen and when they occur. Consensus was to have a HCC
representative, and Steven suggested he could cover the role,
conditional on the amount of effort required.

Honors & Awards Committee: does it exist? Giovanni will verify
this. In affirmative case, we will seek a replacement rep.

Undergrad program committee: Bryan Payne volunteers to be rep.
Charles and Thad Starner are involved in this. Giovanni will
inquire if the committee still exists.

PhD admissions rep: Leo Mark suggests it would be good to have
multiple admission reps, one for each PhD program.

Graduate program committee position is open (need to check with
Elaine).

Leo Mark: The college graduate committee discusses issues relating
to all degree programs. It is important to find a rep.

The proposal was made to fold UROC with undergrad curriculum rep.
Giovanni will email Amy to check about the workings of the UROC
committee.

Picnics: General call for interested people. No volunteers found
yet. Maybe Spring picnic may be more feasible from a time
perspective? Ask Barbara.

Leo Mark encourages the GSC to expend more effort to integrate MS
students from the various programs, especially in social events.
Ask Tom Pilsch for help.

Giovanni will send out targeted emails to recruit missing GSC
posts.

Proposal: it would be nice to have a list for all grad students
(MS/PHD)

Question: Involve IDT and PSYC students in the MS HCI program in
the GSC activities? General feeling: it would be nice, but perhaps
it's better to limit to CoC students due to management burden.

Faculty Review: do only one for the whole CoC. Send out email
inviting senior students to participate. Some students are willing
to volunteer. These students are asked to send an email to the new
Faculty Review Rep. (Yan Gu gygy@cc)

Issues Raised:

1st year Phd students have not yet been given offices and
computers. Involve Brian Cooper to compile a list of 1st year PhDs
that are without office and send list to Leo and Barbara.

Announcements:

Leo Mark announces that qualifier meeting will take place on Nov
7th. PhD reviews will happen probably Nov 14-15, so that PhD
review letters will be sent before Thanksgiving.

David Roberts reports that CNS will change user name assignment
policy for the College. CoC and OIT logins will be aligned with
the same (OIT) username. This will not affect current account
holders.

Next GSC meeting: Friday, Sept. 30 at 4pm.
