GSC meeting

 January 27, 2006.

- Julie PhD Recruiting coming up
Recruiting is currently scheduled for the March 23 weekend, but it is
subject to change.
Brian Cooper will be contact faculty.
Comments: That's spring break -- bad.
In mid-February / beginning March calls for help should be posted.
No information about admissions yet.
Bryan volunteers to help with recruitment.
Sundial is not really good, food is bad and expensive.
House party was nice.

- Picnic
Tracy is still looking into it.
I could be nice to combine the picnic with the recruitment of new
students. E.g. an aquarium picnic.

- Bryan reports about the recently approved undergrad curriculum
Threads. Each ugrad goes through core curriculum in 2 yrs and
then chooses 2 threads for the next 2 yrs. This can become quite
complicated for the student, given the number of options.
It could create situations where it is difficult to fit every
requirement in the curriculum.
Also for TAs, changes in class topics and prerequisites. If you're
interested in curriculum development it is interesting change and you
should contact Bryan.

- Gillian reports on Faculty Recruitment updates
We have many, many faculty applications that are now being split among
divisions.
There is a new automatic application system.

- Reports from Faculty meetings (IICD, CSSD)

Steven (IICD)
=============
Nov Meeting
Problem of few Faculty attending thesis proposals and defenses
It was decided not to schedule defenses in specific time slots. Instead,
we could make posters at the entrance of TSRB about every defense so that
people walking in would be reminded. Faculty recruiting long term
strategy. Ask Steven Dow for more information.

Travel
TA mandatory before travel.

Budget
Ask Steven about details.
New CRIM "center for robotics and intelligent machines" trying to
raise money, it will eventually be a center at level of GVU.
