GSC Officer Positions

For more information, please contact the current officer (please see main GSC web page).

If you are the current officer and would like to change the description, please contact the Nominating Committee.

Grad Liaison

The Grad Liaison is the primary interface between the grad student
population and the CoC administration.  The Liaison acts as the voice of
the grad students to the administration, and acts as a single point of
contact for information from the administration to the students.

The Liaison is the head of the Grad Student Committee.  In this capacity,
he insures that grad students are properly represented on most faculty
committees, attends the Faculty meetings on behalf of the students, and
keeps the students informed regarding issues that they need to know.

The Liaison acts as the first line of defense for students having problems
with the faculty or administration.   The liaison assists students with
problem resolution and insures the administration is aware of any serious
problems encountered by students.

Graduate Program Committee

Serves on the committee that discusses issues that concern graduate students.

PhD Admissions Committee

Basically, the committee meets for 2 hours a week in February and March.  We read
people's applications, and rate them from 1 to 5.

Undergraduate Program Committee

Serves on the committee that discusses issues that concern undergraduate students.  We talk
about the undergrad curriculum and other miscellaneous issues regarding undergraduates.

Faculty Recruiting Committee

As faculty recruiting rep, your job is to run the candidate-student lunch meetings.  Your most important duty is to insure large attendance at these meetings, along with a large student attendance at the job talks.  You also sit in on the faculty recruiting meetings (when they don't conflict with student-candidate lunches).  It is a good job for someone nearing graduation who is interested in an academic position.

Honors and Awards Committee

Serves on the College's Honors and Awards committee.

Colloquia Committee

Serves on the College's Colloquia Committee.

Happy Hour Coordinators

Each Friday that school is in session (sometimes including exam week), the HHC picks a place to go for Happy  Hour and then sends information out to the Happy Hour mailing list. In addition, once or twice a year, the HHC arranges a 'Take a Prof to Happy Hour' outing.

Grad Tea Coordinator

The Grad Tea Coordinator is responsible all administrative work concerning
the Grad Tea.  First and foremost, the Coordinator's duty is to find and
schedule volunteer hosts for each Tea that is planned for the quarter.
(S)he must answer any questions that the volunteer host might have, such as
budget, ordering, delivery, or location.  The coordinater is responsible for
determining the location of the Grad Tea and being there the day of the Tea
to see that things go smoothly and to help out if necessary.  (S)he is also
responsible for managing supplies from week to week, seeing that each
volunteer gets reimbursed if necessary, and tracking expenditures for the
quarter so as not to go over budget.  All told, it seems like quite a bit,
but once an interim Tea Coordinator learns the who, how and where, the job
requires less than 3 hours a week.

CoC Picnic Coordinator

Assists in the arrangements of the College's annual picnic.

Grad Student Orientation

The main duties are to organize the student volunteers and take care of putting up all of the information.  We also  elp in the planning of activities for the weekends.
