Competently produced audio invariably enhances the overall effectiveness of any graphical presentation whether it be a motion picture, virtual reality world, or graphical computer interface.

Despite this fact, media and software developers often give graphics first priority with audio being an afterthought.  The GVU AudioLab exists to eliminate this deficiency.  Through multidisciplinary collaboration, research, and development, AudioLab seeks to:

  • develop tools and techniques that will allow non-experts to intuitively   integrate sound, music, and voice with graphics.
  • investigate new methods for spatial (3-D) audio design and editing
  • act as a resource for other GVU groups to exploit to enhance the audio components of their research.
  • work with artists to explore new applications of digital audio technology in live and recorded performance.
  • support instruction in the College of Computing in the areas of sound   design, editing, and production.
